Traffic jam! Performance Teams

Auditions this month!

Join us for our 2nd official session of Traffic Jam! Swing Performance Teams—sign up below!

What is a performance team?

A 5-month, weekly commitment from October–February building towards local performances in February and a competition performance at Dayton Swing Smackdown in Dayton Ohio February 21–23.

This year we'll be offering two audition teams (in addition to our invitational team focused on showcasing our Traffic Jam! Swing instructors) to get as many folks involved and performing as possible!

Interested? Excited? Ready to sign up?

Join us for one of our upcoming Auditions:

  • Saturday, September 14 from 4–5 PM

  • Sunday, September 15 from 4–5 PM

  • Monday, September 16 from 6–7 PM

Here's what is expected of the folks participating in a team:

  • Be available on Wednesday nights from October 9 through February. Rehearsals will be 75 minutes each. One team will rehearse from 6:30–7:45 and the other will rehearse from 7:45–9pm.

  • There will be no rehearsals November 27, December 25, or January 1.

  • Dancers are expected to practice on their own outside of rehearsals. This year we'll be providing 1 hr a week of open studio time on Sundays for all team dancers to utilize for practice if they'd like, included in the monthly dues.

  • Monthly dues are $75/mo, due by the 5th of each month via Zelle or cash/check. Limited scholarships are available, please reach out to us if you have questions or would like to apply.

Pre-Requisites

These teams are geared towards folks who are taking advanced level classes at Traffic Jam! and above. Swingouts, Charleston (including tandem), and solo movement will all be included in auditions and the routines.

Curious about what an audition means/looks like?

Auditions serve as a time for the team captains (Cole, Abbie, and Kerry) to know who's interested in joining a team for this season, and for us to get a chance to see you all dance together. We will do our darndest to involve as many people as possible, but depending on turnout (last year we had almost twice as many people attend auditions as we had spots available on the team!), there may not be space for everyone. But, never fear - as we have done this past year, we'll continue offering performance workshops throughout the rest of the year to make sure there are ample performing opportunities if this particular session isn't a fit for you. And, we're hoping having 2 audition teams this year will help to involve more people than we were able to do last year.

Interested? Sign up!

All dancers who wish to participate in a team must audition, regardless of past participation in previous teams or workshops. Participation in a previous team does not automatically guarantee that you will be re-cast, but it may influence casting decisions. Dancers are expected to treat all fellow team members with respect, and understand that all team captain decisions on casting, choreography, etc are final.
