Code of Conduct
For all Traffic Jam! events
Covid-19 Policy
In alignment with the Chicago Department of Public Health COVID-19 guidelines and based on local transmission levels, Traffic Jam! Swing events will be mask optional for events and classes events or classes unless otherwise specified on a specific event or class page.
Because partner dancing requires close contact, we ask that you not attend our events or classes if you feel unwell or have tested positive for COVID-19.
Community Safety Guidelines and Expectations
Traffic Jam wants to provide you with a safe and welcoming environment. To help us provide and promote a culture of safety within the event, we kindly request you read and follow the below code of conduct:
At all times be courteous and respectful of everyone while helping to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. This is regardless of, but not limited to age, body shape, ethnic background, gender, gender identities, life choices, political beliefs, race, religious beliefs (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, skill level, etc.
Traffic Jam reserves the right to take any action which it, in its sole judgment, deems appropriate in response to reports of abuse, harassment, threats, hazardous situations, or other inappropriate behavior (whether or not listed as an example on the next page), including but not limited to: warning the individual(s) who appear to be responsible, expelling them from the event, banning them from future Traffic Jam events, and/or notifying law enforcement if there is reason to believe that laws have been violated or there is a dangerous situation.
Please report any behavior that appears abusive, disrespectful, harassing, suspicious, unsafe, or that makes you feel uncomfortable for any reason to the person at the front desk, and they will find a Traffic Jam! staff member. You may also send an email to hello@trafficjamswing.com. Except in cases where disclosure is required by law, we will treat any information we receive with strict confidentiality, unless otherwise instructed by the person reporting the incident.
No Aerials or Low Dips
Aerials (air steps), lifts, or any movements where a partner is elevated off the ground are prohibited.
No dipping where either partner’s head goes below waist level.
Such moves pose a risk of injury and may cause discomfort to participants.
NOTE: Aerials and other tricks may be performed during special performances or Jam Circles with consenting partners.Consent and Boundaries:
Always seek verbal or non-verbal consent before attempting any moves that involve close contact or significantly altering your partner's balance.
Respect your partner's boundaries and preferences. If your partner expresses discomfort or disapproval of a certain move, refrain from repeating it.
Awareness and Consideration
Be mindful of the space around you and other dancers on the floor. If you accidentally bump into another person while dancing, promptly acknowledge the incident and check to see if they are okay.
Inclusive Environment
We celebrate diversity and welcome dancers of all skill levels, backgrounds, and identities. Treat all participants with kindness, respect, and inclusivity. Discriminatory behavior or language will not be tolerated.
Reporting Concerns
If you witness any violations of this policy or experience any discomfort during a dance, please report it to a staff member or organizer immediately.
