  • When is the dance?

Traffic Jam! usually takes place on the second Saturday of the month, but we occasionally switch it up when there's another event happening. Check the events page for the next dance and a list of upcoming dances.

  • Where is the dance held?

Our dance is held at Forteza Fitness in the Ravenswood neighborhood in Chicago. There's a load of free parking, and we're right off the Brown Line Montrose stop.

  • How much is it to get into the dance?

On a DJ night, the dance is $10 for general admission or $5 for students with a student ID. On a band night, the dance is $15 for general admission or $10 for students with a student ID. We also offer discounts to current Big City Swing students via a discount card available at Big City Swing.

  • Can I drink at the dance?

Sure, if you're 21 or older! We are a byo dance, no alcohol is served, but you are welcome to bring your own (reasonable amount of) booze. We do provide water and cups!

  • Can I join the Traffic Jam! teacher training?

Contact us! We love helping people become better swing dance instructors, get in touch to see if you'll be a good fit!

  • I am in a swing band, can we play at Traffic Jam!?

Contact us! We're always looking for talent to come play for our dancers. We'd be happy to listen to your stuff and see if we'd be a good fit.

  • Where else can I go dancing in Chicago?

Fizz - A weekly Monday night dance starting at 9 pm. Fizz is hosted at The Apartment (2251 N Lincoln Ave)

Green Mill - This historic cocktail lounge features live music every night. While it’s not a formal dance, there is a dance floor and we recommend going on Tuesday or Thursday nights.

All classes and dances cancelled through April

In light of the current situation, we've effectively cancelled all Traffic Jam! classes and events through April. We are hoping to continue our regular programming in May, but we will follow the recommendations of the doctors and scientists who are researching Covid-19 and will keep you updated here, on our website, and via our newsletter.
